TWO persons were killed in an ambush in Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City last Wednesday night.
A widowed businesswoman, the alleged target of the ambush, survived but her driver died from four gunshot wounds in the shoulder.
One of the assailants was also killed when Angelo Alega, companion of businesswoman of 52-year-old Amor Pelenia, shot back at them.
The initial investigation conducted by the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office revealed Pelenia and Alega were on board a Mitsubishi Pajero driven by Wolfrando Pagador, 47.
The incident took place at 11:30 p.m. yesterday in Greyhound Subdivision in Barangay Kinasang-an, where the businesswoman lived.
Upon arriving at the subdivision, two unidentified men reportedly approached the victim's vehicle and fired several times.
Pelenia, an owner of a pension house on Panganiban St., hid inside the car during the shooting.
Pelenia and Alega were seated at the backseat.
Alega took out his 9mm pistol and fired back at the assailants, hitting one of the suspects, who died on the spot. The other suspect fled.
Pelenia and Alega then rushed Pagador to the hospital, but the driver died.
Police investigators are looking at a business-related motive.
Chief Inspector Romeo Santander of the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) said the ambush may also be related to the killing of Pelenia's husband, Lando, who was shot dead in 2012.
Santander said they were not able to apprehend Lando's killer.
The CIB chief lamented that the police were not able to talk to Alega, who reportedly could not be found since yesterday.
Santander said the police have yet to identify the suspect who died. If they have the identity of one of the suspects, they can check who hired them.
Recovered from the crime scene were a .45 pistol, magazine, a full-faced helmet worn by the gunman and 21 empty shells of a .9mm pistol.
