THE Mandaue City police officer who arrested a taxi driver as the latter was turning over a cell phone to a TV station reportedly received a death threat on Facebook.
PO3 Brent Fulmaran, 34, who is assigned at the Basak Police Station, claimed he received a message on the social networking site demanding that he make a public apology for arresting taxi driver Ariel Birao, 43, inside the compound of the GMA 7 complex in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.
The private message reads: “Brod, huwaton namo imo public apology sa imo gibuhat sa taxi driver, adto ka sa GMA or kami mangita nimo. Ayaw ni baliwa-a, seryoso amo grupo (We will wait for your public apology for what you did to the taxi driver. Go to GMA or we will look for you. Don’t ignore this, our group is serious).
Fulmaran had the message recorded in the police blotter. He said he received the message, which is accompanied by pictures of a .45 pistol, a candle and blood, several times.
The police officer arrested Birao, a native of Toledo City, last Jan. 13 inside the GMA 7 complex on allegations of extortion.
The driver was later released after the cell phone’s owner, Bahrain national Radhi Ali, decided not to press charges.
Mandaue City Police Office Chief Petronelli Baldebrin has ordered an investigation after GMA 7 complained against the manner in which Fulmaran arrested the driver.
Fulmaran was allegedly in civilian clothes and did not reveal his real intention when he entered the TV station to arrest Birao.
