LGU cleans up Tabunok market road-A A +A
Thursday, January 23, 2014
THE Talisay City Government has started cleaning and pumping out water from a flooded road next to the old Tabunok Public Market.
Vendors have been complaining for weeks about the foul smell of the sewage that overflowed, flooding Colis St.
The fish section of the old market was located along Colis St.
Talisay City Councilor Danny Caballero said the drainage in the area was clogged so the sewage overflowed after frequent rains since December.
Anita Sarthou, 35, said the smell is enough drives away customers.
Caballero, who chairs the committee of market and slaughterhouse operations in the council, said Mayor Johnny de los Reyes coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the de-clogging of manholes located near Colis St.
The City Government also asked DPWH to identify other clogged drainage pipes.
Caballero said garbage clogged the drainage in the area. He added that the problem is an old one.
He urged the public to properly dispose of their trash to avoid clogging drainage pipes.
