Buzz: Dancers’ sacrifices-A A +A
Saturday, January 25, 2014
SINULOG Grand Parade dancers make huge sacrifices to perform during the event.
Some sleep on the floor in the classrooms of Cebu City public schools, which often do not have enough bathrooms.
They are also sleep-deprived because of countless rehearsals, especially on the eve of the Sinulog Grand Parade.
A dancer of one of the out-of-town contingents told Bzzzzz that they were awake around midnight because the assembly for the parade is at dawn and they still have to don costumes and put on make-up.
During the Sinulog Grand Parade, which begins at 9 a.m. and ends around 8 p.m., they have to take meals on the street without breaking their formation. Most of the contingents have to continue performing on the street even during mealtime if they happen to stop in front of judges.
Some dancers make do with candies while waiting for their packed meals to be delivered. Yet, when they reach the stage at the Cebu City Sports Center, they have to be full of energy and all smiles.
