SURVIVORS of typhoon Yolanda currently housed at the tent city in South Road Properties (SRP) received another set of donations, this time from the Japanese Association Cebu, Inc.

This, as the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) gathered the survivors in a general assembly to discuss concerns, such as the plan of some of them to permanently stay in Cebu.

The Japanese Association Cebu Inc. distributed mattresses , hygiene kits, LPG tanks, cooking pots and frying pans to families living at the family rebuilding center.

Yukihiro Mimura, chairman of the organization, said they decided on the donations after consulting the survivors on what they urgently need.

Mimura told reporters the survivors had wished for soft sleeping mattresses. They also received LPG tanks, cooking pots and frying pans.

The Japanese group also helped typhoon survivors in northern Cebu, and Tacloban.

Mimura said they got their funds from the Japanese community in Cebu and also donors from Japan.

Endorse

Meanwhile, Vic Jay Gonzal, of PRC, who was also the in-charge of tent city, said he will endorse to their national office the plans of some survivors to permanently stay in Cebu.

“The initial agreement was for them to stay in the facility for three months. And right now, the organization cannot decide on that since we will still be endorsing it to our national headquarters,” said Gonzal.

He said the PRC had already mentioned to them that their stay in Cebu City is just temporary.
