‘Portuguese’ hacker hits Cebu City website-A A +A
Sunday, February 23, 2014
CEBU City constituents who want to check out the official website of the City Government for information and news updates will not be able to access it for the meantime after it was defaced by a hacker who claimed to be a Portuguese.
The City’s website has not been accessible for the past two days.
Public Information and Office Chief Carlo Dugaduga said he did not understand why the website will have to be hacked when the information being posted are not “classified information,” but only City Hall activities, news updates and projects that are subject for bidding process.
“These are information mandated by law to be posted on the local government unit’s website. Unsa man ila makuha kung i-hack na nila (What will they get from hacking the website),” he said.
He said the City’s website also contains copies of ordinances passed by the City Council.
It also provides information of the City’s elected officials, history, landmarks and tourist spots, among many others.
Dugaduga hopes that the hacking of the website will be addressed by the Management Information Computer System (MICS).
MICS Head Conrado Ordesta III, in a separate interview, said he did not know the City’s website was hacked.
He, however, said he will have the matter immediately addressed by his technical staff today. He said his office will try to fix it within the day.
This is already the second time that the City’s website was hacked.
The first incident happened on Dec. 27, 2012 by a certain HighTech Brazil Hack Team. MICS was able to restore the website the following day.
