‘3rd Mactan bridge ought to be in Cebu’-A A +A

IF THE Gullases want a bridge that will connect Mactan Island and Talisay City, they should think of a fourth bridge, said Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama.
Rama said that if there will be a third bridge connecting Mactan Island to Cebu mainland, one end should be in Cebu City.
Talisay City will still benefit from the infrastructure, he added.
“It should be Cebu City because it is in the center,” he said. “Bring huge infrastructure to Cebu (City) and you will be able to provide inter-connectivity to the rest.”
The Cebu Provincial Government and the Municipality of Cordova met earlier with the Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. to discuss the proposal to build a bridge from Shell Island, which is part of the political jurisdiction of Cordova, to the mouth of Guadalupe River.
Rama reacted to the recommendation by former Cebu first district congressman Eduardo Gullas that one end of the third bridge be built in Talisay City.
The option would lessen traffic in Cebu City because motorists from south Cebu who want to go to Mactan would no longer pass by Cebu City.
But Rama disagreed. He said many southern Cebu residents have business in Cebu City.
“Cebu City is the hub for tourism, service and heritage. (It is the venue for) meetings, conferences, exhibitions,” said Rama.
He admitted, though, that the Cebu City Government does not have a say on the proposed third bridge.
This early, plans for a third bridge have yet to be finalized.
The Malayan Integrated Industries Corp. claimed that it is the rightful developer of the third bridge, as it is a component of the Cordova reclamation project.
