SLAIN lawyer Noel Archival and his long-time aide were buried yesterday in separate cemeteries.

Their families grieved over their deaths and expressed despair at the prospect of facing the future without them.

“If only I can convert my tears to cash and gold, I'd be a millionaire right now,” said Archival’s wife Eillen shortly before the slain lawyer was buried yesterday afternoon at the Angelicum Garden of Angels Memorial Park in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City. “This past few days has been the saddest in my life.”

During a requiem mass at the San Isidro Parish Church in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City, Emily Miñoza, wife of Candido who died along with Noel Archival in an ambush last Feb. 18, said she does not know how she will provide for the needs of her five children.

In a related development, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 has joined the investigation on the death of Archival and inspected yesterday the site of last week’s ambush.

The police said about 3,000 people—including some Cebu City officials—attended the burial of Archival.

Remembered

The Archival family wore white t-shirts printed with the slain lawyer’s face.

Eillen said her husband will be her family’s guardian angel. They have five children.

During the requiem mass at San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, Fr. Paul Medina said Archival’s life had not been a waste as he helped many people.

“He will always be remembered as someone who changed lives,” the priest said in his homily.

During the burial of Miñoza, family and friends released balloons marked “Justice for Candido Miñoza” during the burial at the Talamban Public Cemetery.

Merciless

Candido’s widow, Emily, expressed hatred at the persons who killed her husband, Archival and the lawyer’s driver, Alejandro Jayme. “Mga salbahis sila. Wa'y kalooy.

(They are merciless),” she said.

“Mag-unsa nalang akong mga anak? Naa pa gayod mi graduating (What will happen to us? Our son is supposed to graduate this year),” she said.

Candido was the breadwinner in their family.

Cebu City Councilor Nestor Archival, the slain lawyer’s brother, said does not have a problem with the pace of the police investigation. “This is a big case and I don't think it can be solved easily,” he added.

But an eight-member team of the NBI 7 went to Barangay Coro, Dalaguete to check the area where Archival and his companions were ambushed.

Footages

Supervising agent Rennan Oliva said in a phone interview that they got footages from security cameras installed in the town center from Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Sesante.

The footages show vehicles passing by the town center, including Archival’s.

Oliva said they will review the footages. He declined to say more.

Archival’s driver, Paulo Cortes, survived the ambush.

Insp. Rico Emperwa, Dalaguete Police Station chief, welcomed the NBI 7’s involvement.

“The more help we get the faster the crime will be solved,” he said.

Oliva said they will also go to Santander, Cebu where the port for Negros Oriental-bound ferries is located.

Mayor Sesante told GMA 7 Balitang Bisdak that the town plans to install new closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to help solve crimes.

There are 10 CCTV cameras installed in different locations in the town.

Coro Barangay Captain Maricel Dian also plans to install a CCTV camera in the crime scene and a tanod outpost. DSM/KAL/USJ-R Mass Comm Interns Joyse Almojallas & Fatima Secuya
