TWO men, including a fugitive, were killed during a fiesta celebration in the mountain barangay of Liboron, Carmen, Cebu on Wednesday.
Ranie Fundador, 31, bore a gunshot wound in his abdomen. He was found in a bushy area in Sitio Caminoan on Thursday.
He belonged to the town’s most wanted list for allegedly raping his stepdaughter two years ago.
About 500 meters away from him, Vincent Malinao, 22, was discovered with a gunshot wound in the chest inside a barangay official’s house.
Chief Insp. Alvin Balio, head of Carmen Police Station, said they are looking at revenge or personal grudge as possible motives of the killing.
Apart from Fundador’s criminal record, Malinao was also accused of stabbing a student before following a brawl.
The complainant, however, didn’t press charges against him after he allegedly threatened the student, Balio said.
Felimon Lao, the village chief, went to the police station last Wednesday night after they heard bursts of gunfire in a secluded area in Sitio Caminoan.
A police team composed of SPO1 Gil Jabonero and PO2 Jovanni Calderon responded to the alarm. Without a guide and due to the remoteness of the area, they failed to locate it.
On the next day, Balio led the team and found Sitio Caminoan with the help of a guide.
Inside the house of Silverio Cuizon, one of the barangay councilors, they found Malinao lying on the bed with blood on him.
Two bullets and one empty shell of .22 revolver were found at the crime scene.
In the bushy area, they found Fundador’s body. A .45 pistol with eight live bullets was found near him.
Balio, when interviewed by Sun.Star Cebu, said Fundador had been hiding after a warrant of arrest was issued against him.
They have also talked with Fundador’s live-in partner to let him surrender, but the couple’s conversation would always end up ugly.
The two men have been staying in Malinao’s relative, who is the wife of Cuizon.
No one witnessed the incident as the owner and neighbors were at the barangay proper for the fiesta celebration.
This, as last Thursday morning, police arrested two men allegedly involved in making unlicensed guns in Danao City.
The team of CIDG 7, led Supt. Fermin Armendarez III, went to Danao City after they received information that there was an ongoing gun-making in the area.
Upon their arrival, they saw Jose Capin, 50, and Dioscoro Jore, 57, making guns.
Seized from their possession were unfinished KG9 machine pistols, a .45 pistol and two .22 magnum revolvers, and several ammunition.
Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas, chief of CIDG 7, said their operation in Danao City was part of their operation against loose firearms.
