Buzz: ‘No-survivors’ tweet; 19th-century physics

-A A +A

DID YOU NOTICE...

... MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER NAJIB RASAK tweeted Monday night the news that flight MH370 with the 239 people in it “ended in the Indian Ocean” with no survivors. He used the Tweet, a modern technology, to spread the information obtained from a 19th century knowledge, a technique called the Doppler effect, which describes how a wave changes frequency relative to the movement of the observer, the satellite. The wave phenomenon, proposed by Austrian physicist Christian Doppler in 1842, combining with the speed and pervasiveness of the Tweet, to tell the world the MH370’s fate.

... WHILE THE MYSTERY OF DISAPPEARANCE has been solved, there are still many questions not answered, topped by the actual location of the debris, how to recover the remains of the victims, and evidences that would tell what actually happened before the Boeing 777 jet went down.

No threat to shoot this time

DAVAO CITY MAYOR RODY DUTERTE offered P100,000 reward per pack of the 14 packs of cocaine that authorities still had to recover. Earlier, at a shipyard in Davao, they seized 24 packs, then 17 packs, or a total of 51 packs, leaving 14 packs still unaccounted for. The shipment was estimated at P300 million street value.

But what seems askew here, aside from the missing 14 packs?

The mayor, known for his threats to shoot smugglers, is offering cash bounty instead.

Cats and dogs; guns, explosives

NO GUNS AND EXPLOSIVES, NO CATS AND DOGS were mentioned in the media’s first-day reports about the arrest of the couple tagged as leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed force NPA.

That was a Sunday, the day after the arrest, and accounts were sparse and a bit confusing, when the arrest was reported to have taken place in Carcar City, instead of Aloguinsan, Cebu Firearms were mentioned in the Monday stories, which carried the version of the AFP intelligence groups and the police but still no word that Benito and Wilma Tiamzon had four cats and three dogs in their vehicle during the arrest, not
firearms and explosives.

Lawyers of the couple have made a lot of noise about the presence of the guns and explosive and the absence of the cats and dogs. Some “planting” must have been made, the lawyers said.

The military and police have to answer the accusation, which the lawyers support with the inventory allegedly done after the arrest.

Cebu lawmaker in ‘pork’ list again

A CEBUANO LAWMAKER is listed among another batch of legislators linked with pork barrel funds released for projects aimed to benefit Muslims.

Muslims? What has he got to do with Muslims?

He’s the only lawmaker from Cebu this time. Earlier, six or seven Cebu former House members were among 83 legislators implicated in the P1.7 billion pork barrel for the agricultural sector.

Still much earlier, this lawmaker was included in the list that also have Cebuano lawmakers in it.
