THE Talisay City Police Station filed charges against an American national who allegedly used two Filipino women as sex slaves.
Charges of serious illegal detention and violation of Republic Act 9262, otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, were filed against Lawrence Pendarvis, 71.
Supt. Reycel Carmelo Dayon, Talisay City Police Station chief, said Pendarvis allegedly drugged and detained two women—a 52-year-old and a 28-year-old—inside a rented cottage in Rainbow Beach in Barangay Pooc last Sunday night.
Talisay City Mayor Johnny de los Reyes said he plans to put up a cash reward to those who will report the presence of suspicious persons in their community. He said those who have something to report can call the police or contact the City Hall.
Dayon said the police are still awaiting the results of the drug test on the two women. He said that if the women are found positive for illegal drug use, Pendarvis may face an additional charge for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
The city police chief said they have turned over Pendarvis’ two laptops and an external hard drive to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)'s Anti-Cybercrime Task Force.
Dayon said the 52-year-old woman is willing to file charges against the American national but the younger woman has not decided yet.
