A FORMER inmate of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) was killed while his son was wounded when they were ambushed in Dalaguete, Cebu on Monday night.
Fabian Debuayan, 54, who was acquitted of a murder charge last November, died from multiple gunshot wounds in his body, police said. His son Loreto Debuayan, 22, was wounded in the back.
The victims were heading home to Barangay Caliongan when they were peppered with bullets by two men on a motorcycle in Barangay Cambangyao at 6 p.m.
Loreto attempted to evade the shots by accelerating his motorcycle, but they were hit.
They were rushed to Julio Cardinal Rosales Hospital, where Fabian died.
Five empty shells, two deformed slugs and a bullet of a .45 pistol were recovered by police from the crime scene.
Insp. Rico Emperwa, head of Dalaguete Police Station, said they are eyeing revenge as possible motive of the attack.
In a phone interview, he said they have already identified the assailants. He is withholding their names, though, pending a follow-up operation for their arrest.
Fabian was detained at CPDRC for seven years in relation to a murder case, but was acquitted last November. He worked as a handler of a fighting cock farm after his release.
Before the ambush, Emperwa said the victims came from Fabian’s workplace after the latter asked his son to fetch him.
Loreto told the police his father received several death threats.
