Court of Appeals chooses Ingles as exec justice-A A +A
Sunday, April 6, 2014
ASSOCIATE Justice Gabriel Ingles was appointed as executive justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) Cebu Station, replacing the retired Associate Justice Pampio Abarintos.
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Associate Justices Antonio Carpio and Presbitero Velasco signed Justice Ingles’ appointment papers.
“I have been conducting meetings with section heads and officers of the lawyers’ group and employees’ organization,” Ingles told Sun.Star Cebu in a text message.
Ingles, 62, received his appointment papers last March 28. The former Cebu Regional Trial Court Branch 58 presiding judge said an executive justice handles administrative functions.
He will continue the meetings next week “to better understand the station and its operations.”
With the help of fellow justices, staff and employees, Ingles said he will try to come up with a visionmission for the CA Cebu Station.
“Definitely, it will be participatory governance,” he said.
Ingles assumed office at the appellate court last March 21, 2011.
The latest appointment came five months after he applied for it last year. He was shortlisted for appointment by the Judicial and Bar Council in December, after undergoing an interview a month before.
He was the only one from Cebu and Central Visayas on the shortlist.
In January 2011, Ingles was also nominated to become a commissioner of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), endorsed by then Cebu Archbishop Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal, who vouched for his integrity.
Justice Ingles continues to decline an allowance that the Cebu City and Provincial Governments give to judges and justices. The City Government gives P45,000 per month per justice; the Province pays P15,000. (GMD)
