THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 and Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 joined the nationwide search for businessman Cedric Lee, who is accused of mauling TV host-actor Vhong Navarro.

Lawyer Max Salvador, NBI 7 chief, said his office received a copy of the warrant against Lee last Tuesday night.

“We will verify if he is here in Cebu,” he told reporters yesterday.

Supt. Paul Labra, PRO 7 Regional Intelligence Division (RID) chief, said he released a memorandum to intelligence units in Central Visayas to monitor Lee's whereabouts.

He further said they will check on reports that Lee owns a safe house in Cebu City.

Lee is facing charges of grave coercion and serious illegal detention, which is a non-bailable offense, along with model Deniece Cornejo, Bernice Lee, Jed Fernandez, Simeon Raz, Ferdinand Guerrero and Jose Paolo Calma.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said one of the accused wants to turn state witness.

The arrest warrants against Lee and his companions, except Bernice and Calma, were issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 271 in Taguig City.

Cornejo, Fernandez and Bernice Lee were able to post bail.

The other accused remain at large. Calma reportedly left for Singapore last April 10 despite being in the Bureau of Immigration look-out bulletin, which listed him as John Paul Calma.

Lee and the others allegedly mauled Navarro on Jan. 22 inside the condo of Cornejo.

Cornejo accused Navarro of rape but the Department of Justice junked the complaint for lack of probable cause.
