‘14 Kadaugan sa Mactan culminates with Rampada-A A +A
Sunday, April 27, 2014
M.L. QUEZON National Highway is still closed tonight for the Kadaugan sa Mactan street party.
Vehicles were barred from entering the thoroughfare starting at 5 p.m. yesterday.
The Lapu-Lapu City Government expects a bigger crowd this year because of additional events, said Councilor Harry Don Radaza.
Japanese-Brazilian model Daniel Matsunaga will play Lapu-Lapu, while actor Carlos Agassi will play Magellan during the battle reenactment. Beauty queen Venus Raj will play Lapu-Lapu’s wife Bulakna.
Eighteen contingents have signed up for tonight’s Rampada, a showdown of dancers in colorful and ornate costumes. Thirteen are under the barangay category, while the rest are under the open category.
March Mandal, the City’s cultural administrator and Rampada artistic director, said the street dancing will start near the skywalk of M.L. Quezon and make its way to the City Hall.
Contingents will be judged on their choreography, theme and concept, performance, costume and headdress, among others.
The two-night street party will feature 13 local and international disc jockeys.
Meanwhile, the City is offering free Internet access through WiFi.
About 500 users at any given time will be able to avail themselves of the service.
A user, though, who is idle for two minutes will automatically be disconnected to give way to other users.
Last night, the City held the Kahayag Parade, which featured three categories—float, higante, or puppeteers, and costume plays.
It also held the search for Reyna Bulakna at the 360 stage near City Hall. (FMG)
