A BENEFICIARY of the Cebu City Task Force on Street Children (CCTFSC) scholarship program graduated magna cum laude with a degree in accountancy from the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue Campus last March.

Twenty-one-year-old Crisanta Marrie Jao was one of 313 former streetkids who graduated last March. Of the 313, 29 graduated with honors.

The CCTFSC, a non-profit organization, reported that 160 scholars graduated from elementary, 94 from high school, 49 from college and 10 from short-term courses.

The CCTFSC held a recognition ceremony for its scholars on April 7. Yesterday, Councilor Margarita Osmeña, founder of the CCTFSC, filed a motion recognizing the achievements of the former streetkids.

Jao thanked the CCTFSC for taking her out of the streets and sending her to school. She told the City Council yesterday that she thought before that going to school was just a dream.

She said she intends to take the licensure exam for Certified Public Accountants in October.

The CCTFSC scholarship is funding by the Share A Child Movement, which provide for the tuition, uniform, books and other school supplies of Jao and other children.

Jao said she also received allowances for meals and transportation from the program.

Osmeña said that aside from Share A Child Movement, about 30 private groups have partnered with the CCTFSC to help streetchildren.

The Cebu City Government also extends financial assistance to the CCTFSC.

CCTFSC provides educational assistance, residential care and other psychosocial interventions for street children.
