TWO women were found dead by fishermen in the water off Barangay Poblacion, Alegria, Cebu on separate occasions last Wednesday.

Senior Insp. Ronilo Macasilhig, the town’s police chief, said the bodies are in an advance state of decomposition.

“Dili na gyud sila mailhan. Nimburot sila maayo (The bodies are so disfigured it’s hard to identify them),” he told Sun.Star Cebu.

The first body was discovered by Andres Glinogo, 60, who went fishing around 2:30 p.m. He immediately sought the help of other fishermen to bring the body to the shore.

Descriptions

The woman was in her 20s, of medium build and had a fair complexion.

She had on a blue blouse and skinny jeans with a pink leather belt. She also had two silver rings in her left ring finger and right middle finger, respectively, and a silver necklace around her left wrist.

The other body was found by fishermen at 7 p.m. several meters from where the first body was seen. The woman was only wearing a panty.

The victim was in her 20s, of medium build and had a fair complexion.

The bodies were taken to the St. Anne Funeral Services in Barangay Poblacion, Badian.

Macasilhig, in a phone interview, said the bodies will remain there for at least two days in case someone shows up to identify them.

“Kung wala gyuy claimants, ilubong gyud nato sila (Otherwise we will bury them),” he said.

He said they coordinated with the Badian District Hospital to conduct a post-mortem examination on the victims to establish their cause of death.

One of the women had a protruding stomach that looked like it was about to explode, Macasilhig said. The other one was missing a foot and a hand.

Coordination

Local police are coordinating with the Cebu Provincial Police Office in case there are reports of missing persons.

Macasilhig said they’re also coordinating with the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office since Alegria faces the towns of Ayungon, Bindoy and Tayasan in Negros Oriental.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old college student was swept off by waves while taking a “selfie” in the water off Barangay Talangnan, Madridejos, Bantayan Island last Wednesday afternoon.

A diver found the body of Josuel Carallas an hour after he went missing, but he was declared dead at the hospital.

Insp. Roberto Hugo, the town’s police chief, said the victim was seen taking pictures and videos of himself and his friends before the accident.

“Nag-selfie-selfie. Nag-video siya samtang naglakaw sa dagat (He was taking photos of himself. He was taking a video while in the water),” he told Sun.Star Cebu.

He was battered by several waves until he disappeared, Hugo said.

PO3 Rico Reboquio, one of the responding policemen, said many people have already died in the area.

“Kantelado sad na dihang dapita gud. Kalit ra daw og kalawm (There’s an abyss in the area. The bottom reportedly suddenly drops),” he said.

The victim, Reboquio said, was a nautical student at a college in Madridejos.
