THE Police Regional Office 7 will have a new director.

Chief Supt. Danilo Constantino will relinquish his post today to serve as head of the PNP Directorate for Police Community Relations in Camp Crame.

He will be replaced by Chief Supt. Prudencio Tom Bañas, head of the PNP’s Human Rights Affairs Office, who was the personnel to who commercial model Deniece Cornejo surrendered to.

A ceremony will be held today in Camp Sergio Osmeña for the relinquishment of command of Constantino, who served the PRO 7 for nine months.

Constantino said the transfer came after key positions in Camp Crame have been vacant since February following the retirement of high-ranking personnel. He has been promoted to a two-star general.

During the interview, he said his stint in PRO 7 was short-lived.

“Marami pa kasi tayong gustong ma-implement na projects and programs. Gusto ko pa sana ma-serve ang public,” Constantino said.

Incidents

In less than a year, under Constantino’s administration, several incidents, such as natural disasters, happened.

“There was a ship collision, earthquake and a typhoon. I can say that the way we handled those situations was my biggest accomplishment,” he said.

Constantino said the new director comes from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1983 and was previously assigned in PRO 7 as head of the intelligence unit.

Meanwhile, lone candidate for the PNP Regional Office (PRO) 7 director post, Chief Supt. Prudencio “Tom” Banas paid a courtesy call to Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide at 3:30 p.m. yesterday, accompanied by Constantino and Supt. Rex Derilo.

“Banas is the one being eyed to replace Gen. Constantino,” said Davide, when asked why the official visited him.

Drug problem

In their informal talks, Davide and Banas, with Constantino, discussed the drug problem in Cebu.

“He (Banas) is very knowledgeable about it, since at some point in his service, he was part of the PNP handling the drug problem,” the governor said on Banas.

Banas did not make any promise, Davide said, as he just visited his office to be introduced.

“I told him he (Banas) has big shoes to fill, as Gen. Constantino is very effective in his works in PNP in the region, especially sa Provincial Police Office (CPPO),” Davide said. Constantino also thanked Davide for the support the governor extended to the PNP.
