IN their campaign against fugitives, the police distributed 1,800 fans, 3,000 stickers and 1,000 leaflets printed with pictures of the most wanted persons in the region.
Early this week, the police handed out leaflets to passengers in seaports.
Senior Supt. Rex Derilo, of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, said they will also visit airports this month.
Derilo said the campaign has resulted in arrests.
Last February, one of the most wanted persons in the region was arrested in Mandaue City based on a report by an informant who saw the suspect’s picture in one of the foldable fans.
Derilo said the campaign does not only help them arrest wanted persons but it is also a way of letting the public be a part of the fight against crimes.
“Since we started handing out these items we have received a lot of information through text messages,” revealed Derilo.
But Derilo, who is the head of the Regional Special operations Group, said every text message they receive will have to be verified.
Earlier, Supt. Edward Carranza, PRO 7 chief of Directorial staff, said they have distributed more than P100,000 worth of leaflets, stickers, tarpaulins and fliers.
He said the PRO 7 has arrested some 25 wanted persons in the region. Three wanted persons have been arrested in Cebu City, seven in Cebu Province, two in Mandaue City, seven in Bohol Province, four in Negros Occidental and two in Siquijor.
Printed on the fans and stickers are the names and pictures of wanted persons and a police hotline.
This project was created by Cebu’s intelligence community headed by Regional Intelligence Division (RID).
