Buzz: Cebu among top 10 in ‘dynasties’ list

-A A +A

IN CASE YOU MISSED THESE ITEMS (which people are talking about)...

... SENATORS WHO URGED FOR THE RELEASE of the Janet Napoles list included those who are reportedly in it.

Notably: Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Chiz Escudero, an earlier “Daily Tribune” report said, are among the senators.

It may be that they’re confident they can refute the allegation or they’re just whistling bravely in the face of public contempt.

.. CEBU IS AMONG THE TOP 10 PROVINCES WITH THE BIGGEST ‘POLITICAL DYNASTY’ SHARE.

An Asian Institute of Management (AIM) study of the 15th Congress in 2012 listed Cebu with Maguindanao, Apayao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Negros Occidental, Ilocos Sur and Quirino.

As to the extent of the grip of the dynasties:

-- Seventy percent of the House members was dynastic, with dynasties dominating all the major political parties;

-- Dynasties tended to be richer (per their Salns) than legislators not connected to any dynasty;

-- Eighty percent of the youngest House members came from dynasties.

The www.interaskyon report didn’t name the dynasties although the AIM study must have listed them. The 16th Congress, which started its term in July last year, shouldn’t be much different.

... FORMER PRESIDENT GLORIA ARROYO might get away with the election fraud charges because of prescription.

The five-year prescription period may have already lapsed, counting from the time of discovery in 2005 for the alleged cheating in the 2004 presidential elections.

Who’s to blame for another victory of GMA in the series of lawsuits filed against him?

Earlier, four separate complaints of plunder were thrown out, one after the other, by the ombudsman in a span of less than two years.

They were duped too by fake Harry

A fake Prince Harry fooled an entire city, Memphis, Tennessee, US, unlike in Cebu where, some years ago, only some residents of a town thought a member of the English royalty was visiting them.

But in Memphis, the bogus Harry looked like the real prince and, at the time, Prince Harry and his brother Prince William were in another part of the city. Crowds mobbed the fake Harry wherever he went.

‘Not good children’ to Mother Earth

The question asked by judge Risa Hontiveros at the Miss Philippines Earth 2014 finals, directed to “Miss Cebu” Jamie Herrel, was whether “we, as human beings have been good children to Mother Earth.”

Honestly and in her opinion? No, Herrel said, because we cause her problems. That must have helped get her the crown, as her wins in many other phases of the contest must have too.

In 2008, another Cebuana won the same title, Karla Henry.

Are Cebuanos “good children” to Mother Earth? Not by the way many residents litter streets, alleys and waterways of the city. Ask the mayor.
