TWO police officers are being investigated for their alleged involvement in a shooting incident in Barangay Nangka, Balamban two months ago.
SPO3 Arvie Banati, Balamban Police Station deputy chief, said the parents of the
victims asked assistance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 after doubts surfaced that the police officers started the shooting rampage.
Last Feb. 7, two men died while two others were injured in an attack carried out by two men on a motorcycle.
Police identified the fatalities as Ernel Bucag, 21, and Rey Toong, 20. Injured were Rhembran Estan, 19, and his cousin Clint Estan, 24.
Before the shooting, the two policemen went to Barangay Nangka after receiving reports about an illegal gambling activity.
The NBI 7 is withholding the names of the policemen pending the completion of the inquiry.
The policemen were on board the patrol car. When they got to the area, residents started throwing stones at the vehicle, prompting them to retreat.
About 30 minutes later, two men arrived on a motorcycle. The motorcycle passenger alighted and opened fire at Bucag, Toong and the Estans.
Rhembran told his father that the gunman wore a bonnet. After the shooting, the gunman rode on the motorcycle driven by another man.
Banati said the policemen have denied involvement in the shooting and insisted they were responding to another incident in another place when the shooting happened.
Banati also said the NBI 7 summoned another officer, PO3 Jose Baldicasa, to give his statement on the incident.
