TWO minors were killed while another was hurt after they were run over by a passenger bus in Barangay Uling, City of Naga last Saturday night.
At around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Marjun Bariquit and Mark Anthony Clarete, both 16, were hit by a Ceres passenger bus driven by Jonaber Pongos, 30.
They were onboard a motorcycle driven by their cousin, Angelo Lecera, 21, and had been to a fiesta celebration in a nearby barangay at the time of the accident.
While the motorcycle was maneuvering a steep road, a bus coming from the opposite direction allegedly crossed to the other lane.
The two teenagers reportedly panicked and jumped from the motorcycle but were instead hit by the Ceres bus.
Police found that the three youngsters were not wearing helmets, while Lecera reportedly didn’t have a driver’s license.
John Robert Lecera, Angelo’s older brother, was driving behind and saw the incident.
Bariquit and Clarete were taken to the South General Hospital but didn’t make it there alive.
Pongos surrendered to local authorities in Toledo City after the incident.
Pongos, who hails from Mabinay, Negros Oriental, denied he was speeding during the incident.
In another incident, two men, including a deaf-mute, were hurt after the motorcycle they were riding hit and electric post just outside the crossing of the South Road Properties in Barangay Lawaan 2 at 11 p.m. last Saturday.
Marlon Lozada, 36, a resident of Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, was driving his motorcycle with his companion when the incident happened.
The two were taken Talisay District Hospital.
Traffic police investigators believed Lozano may have been drunk at the time of the incident based on witnesses’s accounts.
