A MAN was arrested last Friday afternoon after he allegedly robbed his former place of work in Barangay Liloan, Santander, Cebu.
Suspect John Cres Imbo, 26, was arrested by Santander police while trying to escape.
A concerned citizen called the police station about a robbery that happened in Du Ek Sam Inc., Santander Branch at 12 p.m. Du Ek Sam is a dealer of appliances and motorcycles and has branches nationwide.
PO3 Noel Estender, in a phone interview, said Imbo reportedly got inside the store by opening a rolled-up door that was left unlocked.
He then pointed a gun at cashier Elena Taberes, 29, and demanded the money inside a drawer.
The employee failed to recognize Imbo’s face because he was wearing a helmet.
After the incident, Imbo fled on board a motorcycle.
Santander police did a follow-up operation and informed the neighboring stations about Imbo. They also informed the seaport near the area to stop the suspect from escaping to Negros.
The suspect’s red motorcycle was found at the wharf in Barangay Talisay, Santander.
Estender said they alerted the coast guard and police in Negros Oriental.
He said they found out that the suspect was reportedly on board a fast craft from Pier 3 of Barangay Talisay bound to Tampi Amian, Negros Oriental.
Upon Imbo’s arrival in Amian, he was intercepted by the Negros Police and was turned over to Santander police.
The manager of Du Ek Sam, Ruel Ramirez, identified Imbo as a former employee who was terminated a year ago.
Seized from his possession was P43,600 believed to be the money he stole, a caliber .45 pistol, an orange jacket and a helmet that he allegedly used in the robbery.
Imbo is detained in the Santander Police stockade while a robbery charge is prepared against him. (JTR)
