CEBU CITY - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Central Visayas is looking into the possible circulation in Cebu of a drug popularly known as “Fly High.”

“Fly High” is a capsule containing a mixture of ecstasy, shabu (methamphetamine) and cialis, an ingredient found in drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction such as Viagra.

It is said to be a popular among patrons of bars and clubs in Manila.

Intelligence Officer Marc Maramba of the PDEA 7 said they received reports that the drug has reached Cebu, but he clarified that they still have to verify the information.

According to PDEA 7, “Fly High” has harmful effects on the user, which lasts up to four days. The user will not be able to sleep and will lose appetite. For male users, they will have a constant drive for sex because of their erection. Like other illegal drugs, an overdose may cause the user’s death.

PDEA 7 learned that the drug is popular among men. The effects of the drug are harmful. One loses weight because he won’t be able to sleep or eat, Maramba told reporters Thursday.

In a TV Patrol Manila report, fly high is reportedly circulated in popular party destinations such as bars and clubs. It costs P1,500 to P3,000 per capsule, which is good for one to two persons.

Aside from the term “Fly High,” some users also call it “Party” or “Superman.” Authorities learned of the existence of the drug in last November when three persons were caught distributing the drug in Manila.

An ABS-CBN news report said the drug causes ulcer, mental breakdown and heart attack.

Maramba said the PDEA 7 will continue to monitor the possible distribution of the drug in Cebu and find ways to prevent it.

For its part, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Central Visayas said it will check if any of the ingredients of the “Fly High” drug is included in their list of registered drugs.

Elizabeth Tabasa, head of FDA 7’s regulation, licensing and enforcement division, said they will check on the possibility that the so-called drug and its ingredients have a registered name but may have different contents.

She said that there had been instances when some drugs registered with the FDA were sold in the market containing a different kind of drug.

Buy bust

Meanwhile, three people, including a big-time drug pusher, were arrested by anti-drug operatives during a buy bust in Consolacion, Cebu at dawn Thursday.

They were identified as Fredie Puesca, 36, and Junrey Bereminito, 29, both from Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City and Ermond Celocia, 24, of Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City.

Police officers seized from the suspects three packs of suspected shabu worth P2,000, three .45 pistols with 20 live ammunitions, .22 revolver, and two marijuana sticks.

SPO4 Jaime Otadoy of the Cebu Provincial Police Office’s Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (Paidsotg) said the subject of their operation was Puesca, an alleged level-two drug pusher.

Anti-drug operatives placed Puesca, known also by his alias as Maton, under surveillance for two weeks. He rents a house in Barangay Cansaga.

When the information regarding Puesca’s alleged illegal activity was confirmed, a police poseur buyer bought P500 worth of shabu against him past 4 a.m.

Otadoy, who led the operation, said Puesca took the pack of shabu from his motorcycle and gave it to Bereminito, who turned it over to the buyer.

When the transaction was consummated, a team from Paidsotg charged on the trio. They weren’t able to run away. All three of them were armed when they were arrested.

Puesca, in an interview, denied owning the drugs. He said the firearm he used was for self-defense.

Puesca was arrested before also for allegedly selling drugs. He was committed to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City and got out seven months ago.
