ARGAO Tourism Officer Joy Sarmago received a bouquet of flowers from Maria Vina Camposo-Corporales at the outpatient department of the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital last Tuesday morning.

Maria Vina did not throw the bouquet because she didn’t want anyone else to catch it.

“She wanted me to get married,” Sarmago said.

That afternoon, Sarmago and eight officemates visited Maria Vina at the hospital in Barangay Poblacion.

“Vin, kahinumdom ka nga gikasal ganiha (Do you remember getting married this morning)?” Sarmago asked.

“Eh, tinuod ka, miss? Nindota gud (Is that true? That’s nice)?” said the 27-year-old Maria Vina.

Wedding photos

She forgot she married her boyfriend Junielou Corporales, 25, in the hospital that morning.

Sarmago showed Maria Vina pictures she took on her cellular phone.

She said Maria Vina thought the pictures were nice until she realized the woman in white has her. Maria Vina thought she looked ugly.

“Naniwang man gud ka (You’ve lost weight), Vin,” Saramago told her.

Maria Vina succumbed to leukemia last Thursday night.

Her wake is being held at her home in Barangay Poblacion.

Her family decided to send her to her final resting place in her wedding gown and clutching a rosary.

Junielou yesterday said theirs was a tale of love at first sight.

He said he met Maria Vina inside the office of Argao Mayor Edsel Galeos in 2009, when he was still an on-the-job (OJT) trainee.

“Nakaingon ko nga siya na gyod na ang babaye alang nako (I told myself she was the woman for me),” he said.

Meant for each other

Maria Vina was one of the OJTs’ supervisors.

After several night outs with friends, they became close. Junielou courted Maria Vina and they became a couple in December that year.

“Ganahan kaayo to siya og mga bata (She was very fond of children),” he said.

When Maria Vina found out she was terminally ill, she asked the doctor if she could have a child but he said no.

Junielou said he resigned from his job at an information technology firm in Mandaue City and abandoned his plan to go abroad so he could take care of Maria Vina.

The couple had planned to get married even before Maria Vina was diagnosed with leukemia.

Maria Vina discovered her illness after she returned from vacation with Junielou in Palawan last October.

Municipal Administrator Vip Semilla said Maria Vina is a loss to the Office of the
Mayor because she worked hard.

“We will miss her because she was kind to us and often light up our day with her jokes,” he said.

Mayor Edsel Galeos and his staff had organized the wedding.
