TWENTY schools along Cebu’s coastal communities were chosen as pilot areas for a complementary teaching method.
The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) and the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Visayas inked an agreement yesterday for the integration of the “Bugsay” philosophy in the primary education curriculum targeting third graders.
Based on the agreement signed by DepEd 7 Curriculum and Learning Management Division Chief Luz Jandayan and Rafi’s Roberto Aboitiz, the latter will provide the workbooks for Grade 3 students in 20 schools identified by the education department.
DepEd 7 will also ensure that the learning materials are integrated into the Grade 3 curriculum.
The aim is to incorporate the “Bugsay” philosophy to children.
This is engendered in the children’s book Akong Bugsay (My Paddle) written by Amaya Aboitiz, which tells the story of young boy Andoy, who goes in a fishing expedition with his father.
While heading to sea, Andoy learns the importance of planning and working hard in achieving one’s goal.
Rafi President Aboitiz said the philosophy will shape the future of public school chidlren.
“It’s part of an effort to build a strong character within the next generation,” he said.
The identified pilot schools are located in Bogo City, Carcar City, City of Naga, Cordova, Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City and Talisay City
