A MAN allegedly involved in a series of shooting incidents and the theft of six vehicles was arrested yesterday dawn.

Parian Police Chief Insp. Ryan Devaras said in a phone interview that suspect Manuel Richard “Batchoy” Corominas, 35, was arrested in Barangay Day-as, Cebu City at 3 a.m. yesterday.

He said they received a tip from an informant that Corominas usually visits his residence at dawn.

“Pagkahibaw namo nga magbisitahan siya makadlawn, amo dayon siya giatngan sa ilaha (We waited for him to visit his house),” added Devaras.

The operation was in coordination with the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Corominas was allegedly responsible in the shooting of Cebu City Edgardo Labella’s nephew, Rolan Colina, a month ago. Two other shootings are blamed on him.

He was also allegedly responsible for stealing six vehicles.

In an interview yesterday, Corominas admitted shooting Colina but denied stealing the vehicles.

Santander said that in another operation yesterday dawn, they arrested the 14-year-old minor who was allegedly a cohort of Corominas.

He declined to give more information on the arrest, saying they are still conducting a follow-up operation on another cohort in the carnapping incidents.

A week ago, two persons were shot by three people who stole their vehicles. The thieves later abandoned the vehicles in different areas in the city.

Witnesses said there were three men who stole the vehicles. One of them was the 14-year-old minor.

The robbers also took the P50,000 cash from one of the victims, Eleanor Rivera and shot her in the stomach. They also injured Julius Capuno.

The police later identified one of the suspects as Corominas and the minor.

Corominas said he went into hiding after learning that he was wanted by the police.

“Duna na man unta koy planong mo-surrender kay halos tanang krimen diri syudad ako may gipasanginlan. Naunhan lang gyud ko (I had been planning to surrender),” said Corominas in an interview.

He said that for a month, he slept on the sidewalks and visited his family in Sitio Upper Day-as at dawn.

Corominas said a misunderstanding led him to shoot Colina last April.

Corominas is detained at the Parian Police.
