THE brother of Mayor Michael Rama has been accused of punching a 76-year-old American national inside a fastfood joint in Barangay Basak, Cebu City.
A complaint for physical injuries has been filed against Fernando Lopez Rama, 78, by Henri Marcel Angers, who hails from Boston, Massachusetts.
Fernando is reportedly the mayor’s older brother.
Angers said Fernando walked in while he was having breakfast inside the joint a week ago.
He said he didn’t like the way Fernando acted, and reprimanded the latter.
“He was telling the security guard to order for him, which is not right,” said Angers, a former policeman.
He accused Fernando of pouring hot coffee on him, before the latter allegedly punched him in the face.
Because of the incident, the two men were brought to the Mambaling Police Station.
Angers said the police wanted them to settle the matter amicably, but he refused.
Sun.Star Cebu tried to get Fernando’s side, to no avail.
The mayor, for his part, said he didn’t know about the incident.
“I have not seen him in a couple of weeks. I was in America a few weeks ago and I have yet to see him,” he said.
He said he was surprised to learn that his brother had gotten involved in a fight, considering the latter’s age.
“What’s the reason for the fight? Where they talking about issues, are they friends? Were they fighting about a girl?” the mayor asked in jest.
Rama then said he will check on his brother right away.
