A FAMILY of three were injured when their vehicle fell into a fishpond yesterday morning in Barangay Dawis Norte, Carmen town in Northern Cebu.

Among the victims is five-year-old Ram Andrei.

Carmen Traffic Investigator PO1 Nerbert Padayao said couple Rodrigo, 44, and Amethyst Baguio, 36; and their son Ram Andrei were on the family's pick-up truck headed to Cebu City.

They came from the town of Catmon.

At around 9:45 a.m., while in Dawis Norte; Rodrigo, who was driving the vehicle, reportedly tried to overtake a multicab.

“The road was slippery because it was raining that time,” Padayao told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview.

Rodrigo lost control of his Nissan Navarra pick-up and it fell into a fishpond located just beside the road.

The area is just a few meters away from where a Ceres Bus Liner fell on its side last Sunday, wounding nearly 40 passengers.

The bus was heading to Daanbantayan town when the tires skidded and the vehicle slammed into a wall.

Amethyst was sitting in the front passenger seat while Ram Andrei was on the back seat.

The Baguio family were brought to the Danao District Hospital where they received treatment for minor injuries sustained during the accident.

Motorists who saw the accident helped the victims.

Padayao reminded motorists to be careful when driving along Barangay Dawis Norte because of the slippery road.

With two accidents in the same area in just three days, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 is prompted to conduct an ocular inspection on the road.

DPWH 7 Director Ador Canlas said that a few months ago, the department had asked its 5th engineering district office to inspect the route if it is accident-prone.

The regional office received reports that the road's design is causing accidents.

Canlas said the department will also put up signs in the area to warn the public of possible dangers when traversing the route. JTR/JKV
