THE police may be sporting a new look after 17 years.

Chief Superintendent Prudencio Tom Bañas, director of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), said they are now undergoing a field test of a new set of uniform, which lighter blue.

The Philippine National Police (PNP), he said, will be changing its blue GOA (general office attire) type A uniform that they have been using since 1997.

“If the results of the survey will show later on that our reaction is positive, the National Police Commission will recommend changing the uniform,” Bañas said.

The current uniform, made of polyester, is used as daily office attire, during heightened alert status, appearances at Malacañang Palace, Senate, Congress, courts or directed by higher authority.

The new uniform started rolling in last week where only senior police officers in Camp Crame and regional offices in the country wore it.

Bañas said the new uniform is comfortable and flexible.

Bañas said the metal police badge will be replaced by a name cloth to avoid policemen from getting pricked.

Last year, the PNP conducted a presentation in Camp Crame of the new proposed uniforms. (DSM)
