THE towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Dalaguete, Argao and Balamban have the most number of inmates accused or convicted of drug-related cases at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).

Gov. Hilario Davide III, who hails from Argao, is not surprised.

“Dugay na kong nanghibawo nga daghan mogamit diha (I’ve known for a long time that there are many drug users in Argao),” said Davide.

Of the 1,971 CPDRC inmates as of June 27, Consolacion has 128 inmates facing drug-related cases.

At least 83 are from Liloan, 71 from Dalaguete, 62 from Argao and 42 from Balamban, based on the records of the provincial jail.

Davide said illegal drugs is a serious problem in almost all towns, including his hometown.

He explained that Argao Police Station Chief Alejandro Batobalonos is an anti-drug crusader, which is why there are many drug suspects in jail.

On the other hand, Davide is glad that 30 out of the 70 CPDRC personnel are drug-free, based on the surprise drug test conducted last June 27.

“That’s commendable,” Davide said recognizing Jail Warden Romeo Manansala’s campaign against drugs.

The remaining 40 personnel have yet to undergo a drug test, though.

The drug test was conducted last Friday morning, which is why jailguards in the afternoon to evening shift and graveyard shift were off-duty while others were escorting prisoners attending court hearings.

Four of the five mentioned towns also had the most number of inmates at the CPRDC.

These are Consolacion with 206 inmates, Dalaguete with 158, Liloan with 142 and Argao has 139 inmates.

Component cities are not in the records since they have their own detention cells.
