Sonny O. is richest mayor in Cebu’s 5 component cities

TOLEDO City Mayor John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña is the richest mayor among chief executives of Cebu’s five component cities with a net worth of P148.68 million, according to his 2013 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).

Osmeña’s wealth comes mostly from his personal properties worth P125.88 million. These include investments in stocks in various companies (P113.69 million), household furniture and appliances (P3.6 million), Toyota Hilux and Isuzu Alterra (P2.7 million), and cash in bank (P5.88 million).

His real properties totaled P37.02 million. These include an Ayala 1016 residential condominium (P8 million), another residential condominium in Maryville (P6.40 million), a house and lot in Silay City, Negros Occidental (P6.89 million), a residential lot in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental (P10 million), an agricultural lot in Pangamihan (P.5 million), a residential lot in Los Baños, Laguna (P980,000), a residential lot in Dumaguete City (P4 million) and an agricultural lot in Tuburan, Cebu (P250,000).

Osmeña also owns stocks at the Pamplona Plantation Holdings, Pamplona Plantation Golf and Country Club, Pamplona Plantation Leisure Corp., and Pueblo De Pamplona, Inc., which are all based in Negros Oriental.

The former senator listed P14.22 million as his liability as of Dec. 30, 2013.

Osmeña is richer than Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes by about P128 million. The latter declared a net worth of P20.68 million.

Cortes’ real properties totaled P9.11 million, according to his SALN for 2013. His personal properties valued at P12.51 million. These include, among others, cash in bank (P1 million), jewelry (P1.97 million), cash on hand (P447, 792), house (P5.99 million), and furniture and appliances (P3.82 million).

Ombudsman

Of the Province’s 44 towns and six component cities, the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas recently released the SALNs of only five city mayors and four city vice mayors.

Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura ranked third on the list of millionaire city mayors, with a net worth of P19.62 million.

The bulk of Apura’s wealth comes from real properties that totaled P14.84 million.

These include, among others, two house and lots in Barangay Valladolid (P3.3 million), a shoe factory building (P1 million), a commercial building in Valladolid (P1.5 million), two poultry houses (P3.2 million), and a house and lot in Poblacion 3 (P1.5 million).

His personal properties totaled P6.78 million. These include, among others, a Toyota Fortuner (P1.21 million), Mitsubishi Pajero (P800, 000), supplies and stocks equipment (P500, 000), shoe materials (P500,000), appliance and furniture (P100,000) and cash on bank (P3 million).

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza placed fourth with a net worth of P14.71 million. Most of her wealth comes from personal properties that totaled P11.81 million.

These include machinery (P28,111), vehicles (P5.08 million), jewelry (1.55 million), and furniture and appliances (P5.15 million). She also declared a P3.06 million worth of real properties, including two commercial buildings.

Radaza earns P1.30 million per year. She had no liability as of Dec. 31, 2013.

Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes follows Radaza after posting P9.88 million net worth.

Majority of de los Reyes’ wealth comes from his personal properties that totaled P10.51 million.

His real properties also include three residential lots in Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte; four commercial cottages in Gaas, Balamban town; a house and lot in Bulacao, Talisay City; a chapel and basketball court totaled P2 million.

He listed three bank loans amounting to P2.62 million as his liabilities.

His family owns JVR Industries and JVR Island in the Sky Resort in Balamban, Cebu.
