HADJE Piodos got out of jail after 10 years when the court dismissed the murder case the police filed against him.

He vowed never to go back. “Naningkamot gani ko nga di na makabuhat og di mao (I tried not to commit a crime),” he added.

But Piodos, 37, and his neighbor, Eusebio "Ramil" Piloto, 44, were arrested by the police in Balamban last Wednesday for allegedly robbing two employees of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distributing firm.

The police allegedly seized from them several firearms, bullets, a grenade and two big packs of what is believed to be shabu.

The alleged victims identified the two from the rogues’ gallery of the Toledo City Police Station.

Charged

Piodos and Piloto were charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives and violating Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor yesterday morning.

A separate robbery complaint was filed against them before the Toledo City
Prosecutor's last Thursday.

Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Jay Paradiang conducted the inquest proceeding and during which the two suspects opted not to file a counter-affidavit to answer the accusations. This is why the complaints will be endorsed to a court in Toledo City for trial.

The illegal drugs and explosives cases are non-bailable.

In an interview with reporters, both suspects denied they are robbers and that they were carrying firearms or illegal drugs when arrested. But they did not accuse the police of planting evidence.

“I'm only a kuyme (cockfight referee),” Piloto said in Visayan. He said he was a tanod before and kept thugs in his neighborhood at bay.

But Paradiang said Piloto has two pending criminal complaints before the provincial prosecutor's office.

Piodos said he feeds his family with his income from carpentry. “My work is not illegal,” he said in Visayan.
