SEVEN officials were invited to appear during the regular session of the Cebu Provincial Board to shed light on what should be done to protect minors from cyber-pornography.

Last June 24, an Australian national was arrested after he allegedly involved 15 minors to cyber-pornography in his rented room in Cordova Home Village.

The minors, who were rescued, are now in a safe house.

The suspect, named Peter James Robinson, was charged with violation of Republic Act (RA) 7610 (the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act), RA 9775 (the Anti-Child Pornography Law) and RA 10364 (the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act).

The minors, whose ages range from 8 to 15, were allegedly recruited by their 17-year-old relative.

The 17-year-old girl was also sued for violating RA 10364.

Invited

The officials who were invited during the session on July 14 included the Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants Association of Cebu head Cenelyn Manguilimutan, Department of Tourism 7 Director Rowena Lu Montecillo, League of Municipalities of the Philippines Cebu Chapter President Democrito Diamante and Philippine National Police 7 Director Prudencio Tom Bañas.

Others who were also invited were lawyer Noemi Truya of Children’s Legal Bureau, Ediliza Hanzen of Cordova Home Village and Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy.

Resolution

The Provincial Board approved the resolution, which was authored by PB Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy, inviting the said officials last week.

“The following agencies and personalities can provide the public with a clear picture regarding their respective roles on the condemnable incident,” a part of the resolution read.
