THE Department of Agriculture (DA) released P105 million to various local government units (LGUs) in Cebu last Friday to improve the agriculture industry and to raise the living condition of the farmers.

DA 7 Director Angel Enriquez joined DA Secretary Proceso Alcala in distributing the development funds in Tuburan.

Enriquez said the other LGUs with DA-funded projects are Asturias, San Remigio, San Fernando, Sogod, Carmen, Compostela, San Francisco, Cordova, Balamban, Alcoy, Dalaguete, Sibonga and Talisay City.

Of the amount, P38.8 million has been earmarked for a farm-to-market road under the DA’s grassroots participatory program, said Marilyn Talagon, DA 7 public information officer.

The P20-billion program is being implemented nationwide this year. Talagon said Tuburan received P9.8 million for items that include farm implements, such as a tractor, fertilizer, corn seeds, cattle, goats, vaccination kit, garden trowel, cassava granulator, grafted mango seedlings and water sprinkler.

Tuburan also received 20 motorized pump boats provided by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, which is under the DA.

Asturias also got P8.7 for items, mainly a village type corn post-harvest processing center and a mechanical flat bed dryer.

Talagon said there were also allocations intended for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of areas in northern Cebu damaged by super typhoon Yolanda.

Domestic animals were also raffled off during the distribution of funds, including two carabaos and five goats. (EOB)
