A MAN died while his wife was hurt after their motorcycle rammed into a Mitsubishi Canter truck in Dawis, Carmen town, Cebu last Friday noon.
The driver of the truck, Ardenas Ermac, 28, of Barangay Lusaran, Cebu City, surrendered to the police after the incident.

Victim Joesito Medado, 64, a resident of Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Medado's wife, Helen, 58, sustained bruises on the different parts of her body and was brought to a private hospital in Cebu City.

Their grandson, four-year-old Justine Racoma, suffered minor injuries.

PO1 Nerbert Padayao, traffic investigator in Carmen, said that Joesito was driving a Rousser motorcycle with Helen and the grandson as his passengers.

Joesito and Ermac were heading on opposite directions.

Joesito was driving southbound while Ermac came from Cebu City.
The Medados were on the way home to Labangon after attending a fiesta in Sogod town.

Padayao said that Joesito overtook another motorcycle.

“Katong iyang gi-overtake na motor nag overtake pud ug tricycle (The motorcycle he was trying to overtake was also attempting to move ahead of a tricycle,” explained Padayao.

Joesito's speeding motorcycle was already on the other lane and he did not notice the oncoming truck until it was too late.

The motorcycle rammed the truck.

Ermac, for his part, said he saw Padayao and was surprised when he heard a loud thud at the front of his truck.

Joesito, Helen and Racoma were thrown off the motorcycle.

Padayao said that Joesito might have hit his head on the pavement which resulted in his death.

A case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries may be filed against Ermac, who is currently detained in the Carmen Police stockade.

But Racoma’s mother and the couple’s daughter, Jelah Medado, went to the police station yesterday afternoon and agreed not to file a complaint against Ermac.

The driver will shoulder all expenses related to the accident. (JTR)
