Cop to face twin raps after getting arrested for extortion-A A +A

A CASE of grave misconduct will be filed by the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) against a policeman for alleged extortion.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested PO2 Joselito Laspiñas in an entrapment operation last Monday.
IDMB Chief Aileen Recla said that Laspiñas may be dismissed from service.
“Once the case of extortion will be filed against Laspiñas in court, then we can prepare the filing of an administrative case against him,” said Recla in an interview yesterday.
Recla said an extortion case will be their basis for the administrative case against Laspiñas.
Laspiñas, 53, is supposed to retire a few years from now but may not receive his retirement benefits, said Recla.
Laspiñas was arrested in an entrapment at 4 p.m. Monday. He is accused of extorting money from Michael Detuya.
Detuya’s live-in partner was detained at the Waterfront Police Station after her employer accused her of stealing.
For P3,000, Laspiñas assured Detuya her live-in partner will be freed.
Detuya sought the help of the NBI 7 and reported that Laspiñas was extorting money from him.
This year, the IDMB is handling 15 cases against policemen. Most of these cases were administrative.
This is, however, lower compared to that of the same period last year, which was 23.
