More cops ‘coddling’ drug suspects-A A +A
Tuesday, July 29, 2014
SEVEN policemen assigned in Talisay City are under investigation over allegations that they are coddling illegal drug operators.
Supt. Reycel Carmelo Dayon, Talisay City Police Station chief, told reporters they’ve already submitted the names of the policemen to the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).
Dayon said the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch is looking into the matter.
According to illegal drug personalities they’ve interrogated, the seven policemen reportedly get P1,000 or more every week as protection money.
Dayon said they’ve been receiving the amount since they were assigned in Talisay City.
However, some of them have been relieved or were transferred to other assignments, he said.
As a result of the allegations, Dayon replaced his intelligence officers to ensure their operations against illegal drug operators are unhampered.
Meanwhile, Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, CPPO director, confirmed that they’re received Dayon’s list.
“We have to validate the information first as it would be unfair for those mentioned in the list if we would not give them due process,” Gillamac told reporters yesterday.
He also confirmed that some of the policemen on the list have been dismissed.
