Cult leader to be arraigned-A A +A
Monday, August 11, 2014
ALLEGED cult leader Casiano Apduhan will be arraigned today before the Toledo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 59 in Toledo City.
The original schedule of his arraignment was last June 30 but it was rescheduled after Lawyer Danilo Yap failed to show up in court.
Yap withdrew as Apduhan's counsel but refused to explain his reason.
Apduhan stands accused of serious illegal detention for allegedly keeping Emma Bocabal Nepomuceno inside his house in Barangay Buanoy, Balamban for several years.
Last March 26, operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 arrested Apduhan inside his villa in Buanoy and rescued Bocabal.
The Provincial Women's Commission and police also took part in the operation.
In an earlier interview, Apduhan denied detaining Bocabal.
For her part, Bocabal executed an affidavit and testified in court that she voluntarily went to Apduhan's house after she felt disappointed with her family for not helping in her marital problems.
Apduhan also denied he is a cult leader who brainwashed his followers to surrender their material possessions to him for their spiritual redemption.
Apduhan is also facing complaints for murder and violations of anti-human trafficking and anti-child abuse laws before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.
The murder complaint was for allegedly killing a 14-year-old boy, which Apduhan denied.
He said the boy was already sickly when his parents brought him to the villa in 2012.
The father buried the boy in the villa while Apduhan was in Negros Island.
In his affidavit, Apduhan also denied his involvement in human trafficking, saying the families who went to his residence were not forced to do so. KAL
