Lapu police’s success against illegal drugs-A A +A
Monday, August 11, 2014
A 53-year-old man was arrested by police in a drug buy-bust in Barangay Calawisan, Lapu-Lapu City last Sunday afternoon.
Anti-drug operatives of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station 3 in Barangay Gun-ob confiscated 10 small packs of suspected methamphetamine, locally known as shabu, and a medium pack containing the same substance allegedly from Simplicio Berame, also known as Pisyot, a resident of Zone Lato in Calawisan.
The operation took place past 4 p.m.
The operatives arrested the suspect after the latter allegedly handed a pack of suspected shabu to a police officer who posed as buyer using P200-marked money.
Senior Insp. Wilbert Parilla, chief of the City Police Station 3, said they conducted surveillance on the suspect for three weeks.
Berame was detained in the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) Holding Cell.
He will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
His arrest came a week after the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Operation Task Group conducted a buy-bust against a suspected drug pusher in Barangay Babag.
The group arrested Jerbie Dungog and recovered 11 small sachets of shabu from him, including the one allegedly sold to the police officer who posed as buyer.
Mayor Paz Radaza has instructed LLCPO Acting Chief Armando Radoc, who assumed his post earlier this year, to step up police efforts against illegal drugs.
In the later part of 2013, the LLCPO conducted a workshop and made a watch list of drug personalities.
From January to April this year, they have confiscated P3.1 million worth of illegal drugs, said Senior Insp. Rogelio Pineda Jr., chief of the City Intelligence Branch.
One of their biggest operations happened last June when they arrested a 25-year-old woman in a buy-bust and seized P500,000 worth of suspected shabu from her. RSB
