A MAN was charged before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor's Office for allegedly stabbing his neighbor to death.
The Dumanjug Police Station filed a murder complaint against Christopher Llena for allegedly killing Jaime Carbonil, 43, in Barangay Masa last month.
Murder is a violation under the Revised Penal Code and is a non-bailable offense.
Senior Insp. Narciso Abapo, the town's police chief, said that Llena and Carbonil had an argument that led to a fistfight days before the stabbing.
The victim, who was reportedly drunk last July 12, was beaten badly.
This prompted Carbonil to threaten Llena, based on witnesses' account.
Llena also claimed to have seen Carbonil hang the former's carabao on a coconut tree.
Before the stabbing, a witness stated in his affidavit that he was making charcoal with Carbonil around 9 a.m.
At around 9:30 a.m., he heard a thud and a groan from behind him.
When the witness turned, he saw Carbonil rolling towards the creek.
Llena, carrying a plamingko (hatchet), reportedly grabbed the witness's shirt and pointed the weapon at him, warning the witness not to make a move.
Llena later walked away.
The witness then informed Carbonil's wife about what happened.
Carbonil was rushed to the hospital but failed to make it there alive. KAL
