A GROUP in Toledo City, Cebu was neutralized by police with the seizure of almost P1.2 million worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust last Friday.
Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, director of Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), identified the suspects as Nestor Pagdalian, 34; Alexis Velayo, 34; and Charlie Mandawe, 39.
Seized from the group were four large packs, three medium packs and some 21 small packs of shabu. The shabu weighed 100.81 grams and is worth P1,189,558, based on estimates set by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB).
The operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG) and Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch (PIDMB) conducted the buy-bust at 5:15 p.m. following a three-week case build-up.
The operation stemmed from complaints of concerned citizens about rampant selling of drugs in Barangay Luray II, Toledo City.
A poseur-buyer bought a pack of shabu from Pagdalian, who was the subject of the operation. Pagdalian was described by police as a level-two drug pusher, who could dispose more than 250 grams of shabu per week.
When the transaction was consummated, the operatives arrested Pagdalian and his cohorts, who were inside his house.
During their search, the operatives also recovered a .22 revolver with seven live bullets and a .38 revolver with five live bullets from the suspects.
Supt. Rodolfo Albotra, head of PIB and PIDMB, said the group mainly operates in Toledo City and other neighboring municipalities.
“Bag-o pa ni sila sa pagpamaligya pero dinagkoay na gyud (They just started, but they are bigtime),” he said.
During the press briefing yesterday, Gillamac said they the group’s financier is likely from Manila.
Operatives recovered receipts from them that showed their transaction through a money transfer service where each deposit was worth at least P50,000.
When interviewed by reporters, Pagdalian said he was forced to sell drugs to feed his family.
Pagdalian used to work in a mining company based in Toledo City.
The suspects will face complaints for violating Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Meanwhile, a buy-bust operation in Sitio Rotunda, Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, last Sunday night, arrested live-in partners classified as level 3 drug pushers.
Police Chief Inspector Romeo Santander of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said they received a text message about Edgar Potot who was selling illegal drugs.
“Siya ang nitunol sa shabu pero nakaikyas siya, iyaha rang ka live-in partner among nadakpan (Potot handed over the shabu but he fled, only his live-in partner was nabbed)” Santander said.
Mercedita Survilla, 42, the live-in partner of Potot was arrested after a medium and 53 small plastic packs of suspected shabu, estimated to cost P20,000 and cash amounting to P1,620.00.
Santander said Potot disposed of less than 50 grams of shabu every week.
Survilla is temporarily detained at the CCPO lock-up cell pending the filing of a case. (DSM/With Janelle Paula Blaire Arcayos, USJ-R MassCom Intern)
