A SUSPECTED level two drug pusher was killed in a shootout with the police yesterday afternoon in Upper Manol, Barangay Tisa in Cebu City.

In Cebu Province, the police’s illegal drugs haul reached 414.39 grams, valued at P4.9 million, during operations conducted between Aug. 18 and 25.

In Cebu City, the police also intensified their campaign against illegal drugs.

Alvin Parba, 32, allegedly fired at members of the Special Weapons and Tactics team and the Motorcycle Response Unit of the Cebu City Police Office when he got cornered during a chase.

The police received a call at 1:30 p.m. about an armed man in the area. When they arrived in Upper Manol, they saw Parba allegedly carrying a .357 revolver.

Parba ran and entered the house of Elmer Quibite. During the shootout, Parba was hit in the chest and head, which resulted in his instant death.

City Intelligence Branch (CIB) Chief Romeo Santander, who came with a back-up team, said Parba is listed as a level two drug pusher in the police watch list.

As a level two pusher, Parba allegedly sold at least 250 grams of illegal drugs per week.

Santander said there is an existing warrant arrest for Parba issued in June 2013 by Judge Eric Menchavez of the Regional Trial Court Branch 21. He said they have been looking for Parba ever since.

The police also arrested Quibite, 28, because a big pack of what is believed to be shabu, whose street value is about P20,000, was found in his possession.

Quibite said he was sleeping when Parba barged into their house and fired at the police. He said Parba handed him a bag but he did not know it contained drugs.

Alarming

Parba's 66-year-old father, Mileton, denied that his son sold drugs.

Tisa Barangay Captain Phillip Zafra said he finds the illegal drug problem in his barangay “alarming.” He said he heard talks that Parba was selling drugs.

Also yesterday and last Tuesday, the police seized more than P200,000 worth of illegal
drugs and arrested two suspects in separate operations in Cebu City.

In Barangay Kinasang-an, the Pardo Police raided the house of suspected level three drug pusher Jonathan Baclayon. Two big packs of suspected shabu, worth P120,000, were confiscated from him.

In Barangay Inayawan, the CIB arrested Heraclao Berdin in a buy-bust operation. The police confiscated 1,100 sticks of marijuana leaves and 20 small packs of shabu amounting to P100,000.

The police raided Berdin’s house in Inayawan last July but he escaped.

More operations

The police have intensified the drive against illegal drugs not only in Cebu City, but also in Cebu Province.

In eight days, stations under the jurisdiction of the Cebu Provincial Police Office conducted eight buy-busts and served 37 search warrants.

The operations were conducted in 37 local government units in Cebu Province.

The City of Naga, Alcoy, Barili, Borbon, Carmen, Compostela, Cordova, Ginatilan, Pilar, Oslob, Pinamungajahan, and Poro and San Francisco in Camotes were not included in the operations, according to the CPPO accomplishment report.

Police arrested 65 drug suspects and confiscated 24 firearms during the operations.
Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, CPPO director, said the arrests were made with the help of the Cebu Provincial Anti-drug Abuse Council (CPADAC).

CPADAC executive director Joey Herrera, also a Provincial Board member, said support from the local government can improve the police’s efficiency.
