CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III yesterday accepted the ice bucket challenge posed to him by a Capitol consultant and some inmates.
Davide, who just arrived from Thailand, said he will not shy away from the challenge of Marco Toral, Capitol consultant on jail matters, and the 24 inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), who donated a total of P7,000 or $160 to fund research on a cure for ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
ALS is a disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
“Kaya na nako (I can do it),” Davide said.
Toral told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview that they nominated Davide because they want the governor to support the cause.
CPDRC inmates pooled funds equivalent to $100 while Toral gave $60.
“It feels good to help no matter how small,” Toral said.
Davide said he plans to throw the bucket next week. He nominated TV5 reporter King Perez to do the same.
