At 3 a.m. last Friday, taxi driver Jaime Lequigan died when the cab he was driving fell into a ravine in Barangay Damolog, Sogod.

PO2 Dario Dinopol of the Sogod Police Station said that Lequigan came from Tuburan town and was on his way home to Barangay Lahug.

While driving downhill in Sitio Canduwang, Lequigan lost control and crashed into a coconut tree, before falling into the ravine.

Insp. Romeo Caacoy Jr., the town's police chief, said they suspected the driver may have fallen asleep while traveling on high speed.

"Posible nakatagpilaw kay gikapoy sa biyahe (He could've fallen asleep, fatigued from the travel)," he said.

Student

In Barangay Poblacion East, Moalboal, a college student was injured when she was hit by a motorcycle at 7:35 a.m. last Friday.
Janice Dumosmog, 15, was crossing the pedestrian lane going to the Cebu Technological University when Ismael Lagaylay, 18, allegedly hit her with his motorcycle.

Dumosmog was rushed to the Badian District Hospital while Lagaylay was taken into custody by the police.

Three hours later, a tricycle with three people on board, was hit by a Hyundai bus in Santander town.

According to police investigation, Korean national Sanghoon Han, 44, overtook the tricycle but hit the smaller vehicle's left body instead.

The tricycle driven by Antolino Busmeon, 70, overturned.

He was driving passengers Flordeliza Cascara, 29, and her son Orland Culanag, three, to Oslob.

PO2 Vergil Rosal of the Santander Police Station said that Han rushed Busmeon to the nearest hospital from Santander, which is in Dumaguete City, but Busmeon didn't survive the accident.

Injuries

Cascara and her son sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Santander municipal health center. They were released yesterday.

Rosal told Sun.Star Cebu that the victims' family are not pressing charges against Han as long as he will shoulder the hospital and burial expenses.

In Barangay Putat, Tuburan, three people were injured when a motorcycle slammed into a pick-up truck driven by a parish priest early Friday evening.

PO2 Barry Entia of the Tuburan Police Station identified the injured as Patric Lopez, 19; Jacenta Comajig, 20; and Claire Malinao, eleven.

Fr. Russel Sungcad was signaling to turn right for the Putat Parish Church when the white Toyota Hilux he was driving was hit by the motorcycle driven by Lopez.

Comajig was riding pillion while Malinao was on the side of the road.

Lopez slammed into the rear of the pick-up truck before hitting a tricycle and Malinao.

Entia said Lopez and Comajig, both college students, were brought to a hospital in Cebu City.

Malinao sustained minor injuries.

Drunk

“The two came from a fiesta and were drunk. They were even finger-pointing on who was driving,” Entia also said.
Another incident involving liquor happened in Balamban town yesterday dawn.

Carpenter Eugene Apas, 30, who was believed to be intoxicated, died from severe head injuries when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car.

Apas came from a fiesta, said PO2 Ronald Pitogo of the Balamban Police Station.

Apas reportedly overtook another motorcycle and collided with the car driven by Rebestiane Libumfacil, 66.

Apas was thrown off the motorcycle, which caught fire and exploded.

“Kaslonon kuno ni kay bag-o pa ni namay sa iyang uyab (He was said to be recently engaged)," Pitogo said. DSM
