THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 7 is asking the Cebu City Government to widen roads in several areas.

In his letter to Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, who chairs the City’s Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC), City Fire Marshal Chief Insp. Rogelio Bongabong Jr. listed 23 roads that need to be widened.

These are Third St. in Mt. View Village in Barangay Quiot; the road in Sitio Pailob and Kabulihan and Urgello St. in Barangay Sambag 1; Visitacion St. and the roads in Sitios Katangkungan, TB Pavilion and CAP area in Barangay Sambag 2; Tabucanal in Barangay Poblacion Pardo; the road in Sitios Laguna and Royal Compound in Barangay Cogon Pardo; the road in Sitios Renaissance, Ciwac, Upper and Lower San Roque in Barangay Bulacao; the road in Villa Zacate in Barangay Basak Pardo; the road in Villa Concepcion in Barangay Kinasang-an; and Balagtas St. and the road in Sitio San Roque in Barangay Pahina Central.

The list also includes the road in Sitio Manga, the road in Sitio Don Bosco that connects Barangay Punta Princesa and Barangay Buhisan, A. Lopez St. in Barangay Labangon and the road in Sitio Nazareth in Barangay Buhisan.

Risky areas

These streets, which are mostly located in densely-populated barangays in the north district, have been identified as fire-prone areas by the BFP.
Bongabong said the list was based on an actual road survey and inspection conducted by fire inspectors.

The City Council, for its part, asked the BFP 7 to submit a list of all fire incidents in the city this year and a list of cases filed for those responsible.

The legislative body also referred the letter to the Office of the Mayor, Department of Engineering and Public Works and the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and asked the offices to act on the request. (RVC)
