THE Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) yesterday honored Dolores “Dolly” Suzara, 81, for her contribution to the Sinulog Festival.
Suzara was one of the pioneer organizers of the Sinulog when it started in 1981.
“She is the original Sinulog festival queen,” said SFI executive director Ricky Ballesteros.
A plaque of appreciation signed by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, SFI chairperson, was given to Suzara.
Even if she was on a wheelchair, Suzara personally received her award.
Suzara has been in and out of the hospital since October last year after she slipped, which affected her lungs, Ballesteros said.
She was again admitted recently for having a hard time breathing and was only discharged last Friday.
Ballesteros said Suzara would’ve wanted to attend the Sinulog grand parade last Sunday but he talked her out of it because her body was still fragile. Suzara is SFI’s project director since 2003.
