SEVEN police officers from the Mandaue City Police Office were awarded with “Medalya ng Kagalingan” (Medal of Merit) yesterday for their accomplishments in the government’s war against illegal drugs.

Those who were recognized were Police Chief Inspector Genilo Veraque, P03 Leolister Ligaray, PO3 Jason Estrera, P02 Delvic Bag-ao, PO1 Protacio Man-on, PO1 Jean Buton and PO1 Norjane Bualan.

The seven policemen arrested Marvin Villanueva, Genabeth Cuesta, Francis Omolon and 7 others in a buy-bust operation last Jan. 21 in the premises of a hotel in Barangay Tipolo.

Recovered from the suspects were several sachets of shabu weighing 35.06 grams, a caliber .45 pistol and P7,500 cash.

The Medals of Merit were given yesterday by Police Regional Office Central Visayas Director Noli Taliño.

“Please continue with the good work that you are showing,” he told the officers.

Even if President Rodrigo Duterte indefinitely suspended the police’s operations against illegal drugs, Taliño said they are not prevented from arresting drug offenders when they are caught in the act.

Taliño said they are encouraging more drug personalities to surrender to the police since they are implementing programs for them such as rehabilitation and “balik eskwela.”

He also reiterated police’s support to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency PDEA 7 and said that they are willing to provide the agency information for the arrest of drug personalities. Jenevie Cabajar, USJ-R Intern
