THE Philippine Air Force (PAF) presented at the Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base (MBEAB) Wednesday morning (March 8) the two fighter jets it acquired.

The fighter jets form part of the 12 FA-50 PH Fighting Eagle or Light Attack Aircrafts acquired by the National Government under the PAF modernization program.

The aircrafts manned by Filipino fighter jet pilots conducted an over-flight and familiarization flight mission in the Visayas region at 10:40 a.m.

The fighter jets flew over Mactan Island, Roxas City, Kalibo, Iloilo City, Bacolod City and San Carlos City.

The aircrafts were purchased in partnership with the Korean Aerospace Industries Ltd. “to beef up the country’s territorial defense capabilities.”

These aircrafts will still be seen flying over Cebu and other Visayas areas in the next few days because of its over-flight missions.

Brigadier General Jose Mirandilla, 2nd Air Division Commander of MBEAB, said that the two aircrafts will be assigned in the Visayas region and will be stationed at the air base.

In their Facebook account, PAF said that the activity yesterday showed to “the general public that these new air assets are vital in strengthening the country’s territorial borders, and that the PAF has already reentered the supersonic era.”

“The over-flight missions will also serve as a great avenue to train the pilots and allow them to be acquainted with the various aspects in flight missions such as the country’s different terrains, weather, and possible areas of interest,” the post added.

PAF had so far received six FA-50 fighter jets.

The six other aircrafts are expected to be delivered within the year.
