THE Special Weapons and Tactics team was alerted after more than 10 "strange speaking" persons checked in a hotel along S. Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City around 8 a.m. Monday.
It turned out that the group, composed of local government officials from Mindanao, are in Cebu City for a conference.
"It's part of our precautionary measure in which we encourage hotels to report any suspicious looking persons. We just secured the area," Cebu City Police Director Joel Doria said.
Doria said that after the encounter with the Abu Sayyaf group in Inabanga, Bohol on April 11, police are monitoring hotels and establishments in the city.
A police, three soldiers, and six Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed in the Bohol clash that lasted for 24 hours. (JOB/SunStar Cebu)
